How to Reduce Rosacea Flare Ups

If you suffer from rosacea flare ups, help is on the way! Rosacea, an inflammatory skin condition which causes facial redness, swollen red bumps and visible small blood vessels, is very common. As we age, we are more likely to have rosacea symptoms which for some, seem to come and go as they please. We do know that by reducing exposure to triggers, including types of food and beverages, use of cosmetics, high temperatures, exercise, and even the weather, can reduce the quantity and size of flare ups. Let’s explore these and other tips on ways of reducing rosacea flare ups.

7 Tips to Reduce Rosacea Flare Ups

To help with the symptom battle some of us with rosacea are up against, here are 7 things to do which can help reduce rosacea flare ups:

  1. Use sunscreen – sunlight can make rosacea symptoms worse, so be sure to use a high SPF sunscreen. Remember to wear a wide brimmed hat and keep to the shade where possible too.

  2. Keep skin moisturised – well moisturised skin is essential to prevent the stinging, burning and itching which often comes with rosacea.  Our Hyaluronic Acid Serum will help keep your face dewy and fresh all day long, by trapping a moisture layer in your skin. 100% of our surveyed customers agreed that their skin felt hydrated after use!

  3. Stay cool – heat exposure is a known trigger for rosacea flare ups. Stay in the shade, wear clothing made from natural materials and avoid exercise in the heat. This may mean swapping your walk for a swim, exercising in the coolest part of the day or in air-conditioned buildings.

  4. Use natural skincare products – to avoid rosacea flare ups, choose natural skincare products which have a lower likelihood of causing irritation. Our Mini Face Skincare Sample set is the perfect trial size, letting you trial our 4 main daily skincare products without needing to buy full size bottles. We always recommend that our customers trial a sample size of our natural skincare products first.

  5. Avoid spicy foods – not just hot in your mouth, spicy foods can also leave your skin hot and bothered! Be on the look out for other common food triggers too, such as dairy products, citrus and even chocolate, and remove them as much as possible from your diet.

  6. Use a cool compress – a cooling flannel on your forehead can help prevent skin flare ups. You could consider using a specialty cooling sports towel too. You could also use a cooling spray like our Organic Rose & Cucumber Toning Mist. Available in three sizes, it is ideal for keeping in your purse or next to your bed ready to use when you need it. This is one stunningly luxurious organic hydrosol toning mist; you could even keep it in the fridge ready for a super cold summer spritz!

  7. Reduce alcohol – as nice as a cool glass of wine may sound, alcohol has been known to cause rosacea flare ups in some people. Swap for an orange juice and take up that Vitamin C instead.

So, while rosacea can be an annoying chronic skin condition, there are ways that you can manage flare ups. If you’d like personalised advice on which of our skincare products is best suited to your skin, get in touch. We’d love to help!
